House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Month!
This bright and cheerful kitchen design took center stage in House Beautiful’s March issue. Designer Bob Schultz of design showroom William Draper Cabinetmaker collaborated with INC Architecture & Design on this Manhattan apartment’s kitchen.
Their client fell in love with the British Arts & Crafts movement while living in London, says the architect. With the clients’ return to Manhattan, they wanted a design feeling that was “modern and fresh, but still evocative of classic, turn-of-the-19th-century millwork.”
The answer was DRAPER♦DBS. Bob channeled the English countryside with our Cope & Stick door style. To brighten the galley kitchen, three shades of custom, glossy gray paint bounce bright light from open shutters around the room.
Reflecting on the cabinets’ craftsmanship and his collaboration with DRAPER♦DBS and Bob, the architect says:
“It’s wonderful to be able to actually talk to the guys who are making something.”
It’s exactly this reason why we take pride in our small woodshop! We have no assembly line, no stock of cabinets, and we take no shortcuts. Each piece is handcrafted one at a time, and signed by one of the 25 artisans who created it.
